5 Great Weight Loss Tips
Losing Weight Isn’t Easy and Success Certainly Doesn’t Come Overnight.
And yes, we’d all love to see major losses overnight; but making small changes in your life can lead to big losses on the scale. If trimming your waistline and getting healthy is on your to-do list in 2014, try these great weight loss tips below to achieve a healthier you.
Tip 1: Sit Less, Move More
We spend most of our awake hours these days sitting. Our bodies were built to move, not idle all day glued to a desk chair. Even a 30-minute workout per day isn’t enough to undo a full day of sitting. Take advantage of opportunities throughout your day to move more. Not only will you burn more calories but you’ll improve your overall health. Some simple ways to move more include: snagging a parking spot further from the store, using the stairs instead of the elevator, exercising during commercials while watching tv, taking 10-minute breaks every 50 minutes at work to walk around.
Tip 2: Get Enough Rest
Not getting enough sleep leads to an increase in hunger and appetite. And this increased hunger typically isn’t for food found in the produce aisle of the supermarket. Lack of sleep reduces hormones that signal satiety and suppress your appetite and, as a result, it stimulates cravings for high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods. Make sure you are sleeping 7-8 hours per night to help reduce your cravings for unhealthy foods that will add to your waistline instead of subtracting from it.
Tip 3: Eat Small Meals Frequently
One way to help curb cravings and overeating is by eating small meals frequently throughout the day instead of eating a few big meals. Eating small meals every few hours keeps your metabolism going and it helps keep your blood sugar levels from dipping. As a result, you are less likely to overindulge at a meal because you’ll feel fuller throughout the day.
Tip 4: Reevaluate Your Diet
Start keeping a food journal to see where you can make improvements in your eating habits. Eating right is 80% of the weight loss battle. Working out more doesn’t help you lose weight if you are indulging in McDonald’s every day. Focus your diet on lean proteins, fruits and vegetables. Steer away from processed foods as much as possible. And make sure you aren’t adding unnecessary calories to your diet through beverages.
Tip 5: Eat a Protein-Packed Breakfast
First of all, make sure you eat breakfast every day. Second, pack your breakfast with protein to offset cravings later in the day.
