friends can help you lose weight

Friends can help you lose weight! The saying goes that dogs are man’s best friend so why not buddy up with man’s best friend to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

If you can’t find a human companion to join you on an evening walk or morning run, consider a four-legged companion. According to research presented at the International Society for Anthrozoology, volunteers walked five days a week with either a dog or a friend or spouse. At the end of the 12 weeks, the dog walkers were fitter and could hoof it faster than those who’d walk with people.

Why? Dogs are always eager to go outside and that enthusiasm spreads to you. You won’t find your dog discouraging you from going for a walk whereas a friend or spouse might be another story. Plus, you won’t let you slack off. They help you push yourself to go faster and longer.

So if you’re looking for an exercise buddy and don’t have friends that can help you lose weight, try taking your dog the next time you head out for a walk or run.
